The 1789 Boston Directory
This CD contains an exact image of the 1789 Boston Directory as printed in that year. Our information is taken from a reprint made in limited edition of only 950 copies in 1904. The entire work has been scanned to larger than original for easy reading and research.
The Directory shows each person that was living in Boston during this period and gives there trade or occupation and their address. It is a great genealogy tool and one that will yield some great information. Remember during this period many notables in American history lived in and around Boston. So it would should not surprise one to find such names as Paul Revere, and Samuel Adams! Check it out and then see how many of the famous men that you can find in this Great Old Historical Record. We have also included the poem about Revere written in 1860 by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Also included are two drawings of Revere from early sources.
In addition to the historical information on this CD. You will find a map of the planned City of Boston, and it is a Very Rare Map.
You may search all of your life and never see another one of these books because they are that RARE!
This CD does not require any installation to your PC and it is very simple to click on the index file and read directly from the CD. There is no need to install other programs or to have to read from a plain text program. Each page is in color and the image is larger than the original and is highly more readable than the original. This book was printed just 13 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence and is a RARE piece of American history and genealogy for Boston.
The Surnames are listed on pages and the pages are alphabetically listed but the names on these pages are not in order. In most cases we have tried to leave all such in the original order. We have provided a alphabetical listing of "A" through "Z" that can be clicked on to take you to the starting page where the names beginning with this letter are found. We have also provided a back button that will take you back to the index page so that you may get around with the book easily.
